Infanta, Quezon’s Version of Penitencia for Commemorating the Sufferings of Jesus

Shown in these video/photos are the devotees of the sacrifices of Jesus Christ in their so called “Penitensiya” (“Penitencia”) during a Good Friday in the town of Infanta in Quezon Province, Philippines.

Half-dressed with dried banana leaves and head covered with woven fern (or coconut leaves), the devotees imitates the sufferings of Jesus, before he was crucified, by having their backs cut with razor blade and hit their own wounds using a wooden sling.
