Richest (Men) in the Philippines – Something to be proud of?
Every time I heard of that 3 richest people in the Philippines have made a spot in the 2007 Forbes list of richest in the world, I can’t help to recall a popular Confucian saying;
“In a country well governed, poverty is something to be ashamed of. In a country badly governed, wealth is something to be ashamed of.”
| Name | Rank | Net Worth Billion |
Source of Wealth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Henry Sy | 349 | USD2.6 | SM Prime Holdings |
| Jaime Zobel de Ayala & family | 349 | USD2.6 | Ayala Corporation |
| Lucio Tan | 409 | USD2.3 | Asia Brewery, Philippine Airlines |
We don’t discredit the hard works that these people have done to achieve the wealth that they have today. But considering the toiling condition of the majority of the Filipino people and workers, is this really something to be proud of?
