About Ateneo University. Ateneo University has claimed to be the premier Filipino, Catholic and Jesuit University. Ateneo de Manila (AdMU), for instance, rank as number 71 in the latest Asiaweek survey of best Universities in Asia in 2000 and number two in the Philippines, followed to the University of the Philippines (UP). Ateneo University is a multi-disciplinary learning institution that offers various courses including, but not limited to, law and nursing. It also offers admissions for secondary and grade school levels. It was founded in 1948 by the Philippine Province of Jesuits. Ateneo is also know as the school where the Philippine National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal took his high school before he enrolled to college in Sto. Thomas University (UST) and took medicine.
