| About Prostatitis.Protatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland, usually due to infection caused by organisms that are sexually acquired. Prostatitis can also be precipitated by alcohol intake and spicy foods. Younger men who get sexually stimulated but don’t get to ejaculate can develop prostate congestion and can have the same symptoms. Symptoms of prostatitis includes, irregular and painful urination, sensation of having to urinate immediately, often accompanied by bladder pain or spasm (urgency), tender, swollen prostate and sometimes, a blood in the urine. Because women do not have a prostate gland, it is a condition only found in men.
Prostatitis can be detected by Prostate Specific Antigen or PSA test, a screening test for the detection of prostate cancer. But prostatitis is not a prostate cancer. Prostatitis can usually be treated with antibiotics.
In the Philippines, the Urology Division of the National Kidney Institute in Quezon City handles all patients with prostate disorders including patients with prostatitis.
